Important Steps for Prospective Students

Federal Tuition Assistance for Eligible Service Members

  • Before enrolling at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, all eligible Service Members must contact their Education Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their Military Service to be approved for Federal Tuition Assistance (TA).
  • After speaking with the ESO and receiving approval for Federal Tuition Assistance, the eligible service member should follow the instructions provided by the ESO or counselor at the military education center to apply for TA in their respective military portal. All information on the TA voucher must be correct.
  • The TA voucher should be sent to SIU Online and Extended Campus, Accounting Officer at ectuitionassistance@siu.edu for processing. The TA voucher must match the student’s course registration, or it will be returned for correction.
  • SIU Online and Extended Campus, Accounting Officer will ensure that the TA voucher is processed and that the TA funds are applied to the student’s bursar account.

Alternate Tuition Rate for Active Duty Service Members

Active Duty Servicemembers, in all branches, and including Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) and Guard and Reserve members called to Active Duty, are offered an alternate tuition rate equal to the maximum benefit provided to them under the Department of Defense’s Military Tuition Assistance Program (TA).  For more information see our Alternative Tuition page.
