The University is pleased to offer military scholarships to Active Duty service members, in all branches, and including Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) and Guard and Reserve members called to Active Duty. This scholarship is $59.00 per credit hour.

Deadline to apply for Spring 2018 is March 25, 2018.


*Information from this application is needed for scholarship purposes. Active Duty servicemembers who are utilizing Federal Tuition Assistance (TA), Illinois Veteran Grant (IVG), or who are self-pay must complete the application each semester before their class start date. Active Duty servicemembers utilizing only VA educational benefits (Chapters 30, 31, 32, 33 or 35) are not eligible for this scholarship and should not complete this application. This scholarship does not apply to graduate students whose academic program is the online Master of Business Administration (MBA), the online Master of Accountancy, or the online Master of Science in Supply Chain Management and Engineering, since those graduate students are charged a unique tuition structure. This scholarship also does not apply to students whose academic program is in the School of Law or the School of Medicine.

Q. What SIU Programs does the scholarship cover?

For summer 2016, students must be enrolled in the AVM, EST, HCM, IT, or WED program and be currently serving in the U.S. military. Beginning fall 2016, the $59.00 per credit hour scholarship will be applied to all courses taken with SIU.

Q. When should I complete the scholarship application?

Students can complete once they are assigned a dawgtag, even before registering for classes. Students should complete the survey by their first day of class. The absolute deadline for summer 2016 is 11:59pm CST on July 17; Fall 2016 is 11:59pmCST on November 6.

Q. How will I get paid for the scholarship?

The Active Duty Scholarship will be posted to the student’s Bursar account after verification of military status and scholarship application has been processed; most likely prior to registration for the next semester opens. 

Q. What happens if I drop the class?

If a course(s) is dropped or withdrawn from after the Active Duty Scholarship has been posted to the student’s Bursar account, the student is responsible for repayment of the amount that is awarded for the course(s).

Q. Can I apply for multiple SIU scholarships?

Multiple awards, as allowed, may be received in conjunction with this award, and a cash payout or a credit to the student’s Bursar account may be received for any additional scholarship awarded.
